Chapter 710: Chapter 238: Source Binder, Return to the Inner City!
Wooo—
Four military pickup trucks drove out of Dapo Town one after another. Even without the roar of engines, their wheels still kicked up strings of murky mud and dust as they rolled over the dirt road.
A giant medical vehicle the size of a bus followed right behind them, also slowly driving out along the small road of Dapo Town, then turning onto the country road leading to Wenlu County.
The heavy wheels rolled over the uneven surface, making a dull rumbling sound that was especially clear in the open wilds.
Behind the medical vehicle, another four pickups followed as rear guard. The entire convoy formed a tight formation with front and rear protection, advancing steadily toward their destination.
Before long, the convoy left the bumpy country road and entered the county road within the boundaries of Wenlu County, where the driving became much smoother.
Inside, the giant medical vehicle’s compartment was divided into four sections, each with a clearly defined function.
The rearmost section was an emergency medical room. Garcia lay on a hospital bed; ever since he got on, his pained groans had barely stopped. Even with medical equipment assisting, it was hard to fully alleviate his discomfort.
In the second-to-last section, Luokuke sat in a specially designed comfortable seat. Several medical staff in professional protective suits surrounded him; some were asking about how he’d felt physically the past few days, while others used instruments to quickly measure his various vital signs.
The data recorded in real time would be transmitted simultaneously to the clinic in the Inner City of Happiness City, fully preparing for the formulation of precise, targeted treatment plans later.
In the two sections further forward, Cheng Ye sat by the window, and Wang Kang was pressed close up against the window right beside him.
Neither of them spoke. They simply turned their gaze outward, watching the trees and Wilderness on both sides of the road fly backward, and an endless swell of emotion rose in both their hearts at the same time.
Streetlights.
Outside the window, every hundred meters a huge streetlight stood.

The warm yellow light extended all the way out from Wenlu County, spreading continuously along the road and linking all the way up to the elevated bridge leading to Happiness City, carving a clear band of light across the Wasteland.
In the nine… or rather, ten days they had spent in Dapo Town.
The town had been shrouded in the power of the Immortal Objects, completely cut off from the outside world, yet time outside had never stopped. Instead it had raced forward, everything changing at a breakneck pace, even the roads taking on a new appearance.
The pale yellow light spread out in a broad obtuse angle, completely illuminating what had once turned pitch black as soon as night fell, even the details of the road repairs clearly visible.
The shell craters and pitted, damaged spots that had once covered the ground had all been filled and repaired with a pale yellow material.
Though the traces of repair still carried a certain mottled look, they inexplicably exuded a sense of fantasy, like a scene in a game world being rapidly reconstructed by the system.
The originally narrow two-lane road had now been widened and cleared into four lanes. The surface had been resurfaced with smooth concrete, making the ride exceptionally steady.
On the outer side of the road, pale silver alloy railings had been added, and every kilometer a temporary shelter had been built, each capable of accommodating thirty people waiting inside for rescue.
These subtle arrangements silently told of the changes in the outside world.
Cheng Ye quietly watched this world-turned-upside-down outside the window, the slightly pungent smell of disinfectant lingering at the tip of his nose, the regular beeping of medical instruments sounding in his ears.
In a daze, he felt a strong sense of dissonance, as if one moment he was still struggling to survive in the Wasteland of Dapo Town, and the next he had slipped back into an orderly modern society. Nothing felt entirely real.
Soon, the convoy drove onto the elevated bridge leading to Happiness City.
The world around them seemed to fall silent in an instant, leaving only the road noise of the vehicles and the wind noise entwining, gently echoing in the empty night.

In the distance there was still a thickness of inky blackness that wouldn’t dissolve, like a silent land of the dead, without the slightest glimmer of light.
But as the vehicles continued forward, the outline of Happiness City drew closer and clearer in their field of vision.
That iconic Happiness Giant Wall also gradually revealed its full shape in the hazy glow, towering at the end of the earth, its wall thick and solid, radiating a reassuring strength.
Were they finally about to step back into the world within the Giant Wall?
Scenes related to the Inner City suddenly surged into his mind: schools where one could receive a complete education, familiar streets and music rooms, those buildings of all sizes yet clean and orderly, and the people he had once spent every day with…
But just as these images grew clear in his mind, they quickly blurred again, both vivid and illusory.
Cheng Ye tried to recall them carefully, only to find that those memories of the Inner City were growing ever more distant, instead feeling more like someone else’s story.
Yet the broken walls of Dapo Town, the broad, flowing White Water River, and the days he had spent holding the line with his companions in recent days, grew all the clearer, filling him with an intimate warmth, as if that was where he had truly put down roots, where his spiritual imprint lay.
“Brother Cheng, what are you thinking about?” Wang Kang leaned over and asked.
Being able to return to the Inner City, to the place where he had been born and raised for more than a decade, and to see his family again—there was no way he wasn’t excited.
But when he looked at Cheng Ye’s calm expression, the excitement in his heart was inexplicably damped down, and he too settled into a quiet calm, leaving only a soft question.
“I was thinking… how many days it’ll take us to be discharged, so we can go back to Dapo Town and start building.” Cheng Ye withdrew his gaze.
Wang Kang pondered for a moment, then suddenly took the initiative to suggest, “How about this: you stay in the hospital and focus on recovering. I’m in good shape… I’ll take the residents back to Dapo Town first and get started on the construction?”
