Chapter 1305: Chapter 1305 Extra Story of Du Fu 31

Fu Miaoxue nodded repeatedly, “Okay, let’s take them back to eat~”

She asked again, “What else can we eat? I’m so hungry!”

Du Lai glanced at the sky and said, “Let’s call it a day, we need to set up the tent with the remaining time.”

“Alright~ Let’s go set up the tent!” Fu Miaoxue agreed readily.

The two carried a pile of clams and bamboo tubes back, as the sky gradually darkened, the wind howled, and the jungle grew gloomy. They walked silently one after the other towards the distant firelight that felt like a beacon guiding them home.

Even though both knew, how could that place be called home? It was just a bare stone cave.

…

Back at the big rock, the campfire was still burning. Du Lai turned the cage upside down on the fire. When the birdcage’s base was flipped over, it became a slightly concave metal plate.

Without any usable tools or seasonings, he threw a pile of clams, washed only with seawater, onto the plate to grill. In no time, the sizzle could be heard.

The clams couldn’t withstand the high heat, opening up one after another.

Fu Miaoxue squatted by the campfire, saliva gathering in her mouth. She was so hungry that a few fruits couldn’t fill her up, but she still questioned this way of cooking.

“No oil, no salt, just dry roasting like that?” she asked.

Du Lai poked the clams with a stick and replied, “I wish I could use oil, use salt, add some scallions, ginger, garlic, maybe some vinegar, maybe some chili oil…”

“Don’t say it…” Fu Miaoxue held her stomach and said painfully, “The more you say, the hungrier I get.”

Du Lai handed her the bamboo tube with the octopus, “You can eat this first to pad your stomach.”

Removing the grass plug from the tube’s opening, they could see a palm-sized octopus clinging tightly to the inner wall of the bamboo tube, unwilling to come out.

Fu Miaoxue gave it a curious glance and asked, “Shouldn’t it be killed first?”

“Killing it would take away the freshness; octopuses are eaten directly like this.” Du Lai said in a matter-of-fact tone, “It’s just like eating oysters; oysters are eaten raw too.”

Fu Miaoxue thought for a moment and decided it made sense.

She was quite bold, reaching in to pull the octopus out of the bamboo tube, which immediately wrapped around her hand, wriggling and struggling.

For a moment, she didn’t know where to start biting.

“Maybe… cut it with a knife first?” Fu Miaoxue frowned.

Du Lai said, “No need to cut it, just eat it directly. We only have one knife, and later we’ll use it to cut clam meat. Using it back and forth for raw and cooked foods will mix the flavors.”

Although she didn’t quite understand what was wrong with mixing flavors, Fu Miaoxue thought it made some sense, and since the octopus was squirming around, there wasn’t even a cutting board or anything to cut on, so it wouldn’t be easy to cut.

So then…

Just bite it directly.

She was really too hungry, so she brought the octopus to her mouth, recalling the fresh, sweet, and tender taste of oysters. She closed her eyes and took a bite—

The first sensation in her mouth was no taste.

No fishy smell, no fresh flavor, nothing at all, like chewing rubber bands without flavor.

Just as she was about to chew a second time, the tentacles suddenly spread all over her face!

Fu Miaoxue: “!!!”

Instinctively reaching to pull them off, the tiny suckers on the tentacles clung tightly to her skin, refusing to budge!

Fu Miaoxue immediately panicked and pulled harder, but the result was a ripping pain in her skin!

“Ah ah ah ah!” She screamed in fright, painfully pulling off two tentacles, just as she was about to yank off the others, those two tentacles sucked on elsewhere!

Fu Miaoxue’s tears burst out!

“Du Lai ah ah ah ah!!!”
