Chapter 702: Chapter 236: Cycle of Life and Death, Finale of the Immortal Objects! (Part 2)

The three of them sat in silence for a moment, enjoying the subtle joy of being resurrected from the dead.

It wasn’t until another round of applause erupted from the town center that Cheng Ye snapped back to reality.

“Where’s Garcia?”

“Over there.” Wang Kang immediately pointed in the direction of the western part of the town. Under the bright moonlight, the outline of a human head could be vaguely seen protruding from the ground beside the detection orb, exceptionally noticeable.

“Take me there with you.” Hearing that the two were about to leave, Luokuke quickly called out, trying to move his body, but his lower half was trapped by iron, making him immobile.

Cheng Ye glanced at him, handed the empty cup to Wang Kang, bent down, and hoisted Luokuke over his shoulder by the waist.

Though the lower half was made of iron and quite heavy, it was nothing to him now.

The three quickly arrived beside the detection orb in the west of the town, where Garcia was lowering his head, seemingly still asleep.

He was mostly buried in the soil, with only his head exposed. From the top of his head grew dark green tendrils covered in moist soil, making him look like a half-man, half-plant “monster.”

Hearing footsteps, Garcia slowly opened his slightly bewildered eyes and asked in a slurred voice:

“Is it… over? Have the Immortal Objects been contained?”

“Not yet.” Cheng Ye responded quietly before Luokuke could speak, his gaze falling on the tendrils on Garcia’s head with some surprise. “Are you using Tan Ming’s Petrification Curse to suppress the growth of the tendrils inside you?”

Smart move.

He let Tan Ming into the cave to battle the Ten Thousand Orders Land Conch.

Garcia was also sharp, knowing to use the Petrification Curse to absorb the vitality of the tendrils, slowing their eruption.

However,

Unlike Luokuke, Garcia’s life or death didn’t matter as much.

Inspector Cheng had always been clear about his likes and dislikes. Although he wouldn’t kill a ‘colleague’ at a time like this, he also wouldn’t waste the remaining Living Water Essence on Garcia.

“Yes… yes…” Garcia nodded with difficulty, the tendrils on his head waving gently, “I can hold on for… seven days, seven days!”

“Alright, if you need anything, just ask Wang Kang. Do you need water?” Cheng Ye asked casually.

Hearing the word “water,” Garcia shook his head vigorously, the tendrils atop his head wildly oscillating, as if greatly stimulated: “No… no water! If it rains, please be sure to dig me out, I can’t… touch water anymore!”

“Okay.” Cheng Ye nodded in agreement and looked up at the night sky.

Leaving Garcia “planted” in the ground, the three returned to the truck and sat down again.

“Kang, you drink the rest.”

“Alright.” Wang Kang had no idea what the liquid was, but seeing how Luokuke had come back from the brink of death with it, he understood it was something extraordinary.

He took the cup and drank it all in one go, and in the next second, pure life energy slid down his throat into his body like a warm current, nourishing his fatigued self.

Within seconds, Wang Kang’s eyelids began to droop. He shook his head to stay awake, his voice heavy with drowsiness, “Brother Cheng, I… I’m so sleepy.”

“If you’re tired, then sleep; now that I’m awake, you can all sleep peacefully.” Cheng Ye nodded.

Wang Kang could no longer hold on and slumped to the ground, leaning against the truck bed, asleep.

The endless energy granted by the Ten Thousand Steps Iron eventually required the consumption of life energy. The onset of drowsiness now indicated that the energy not only replenished but significantly overflowed.

“This Living Water Essence is truly potent,” Cheng Ye marveled to himself. “There are still two portions unredeemed; exchanging them for 100% charging value to get an enhanced version later might produce even more astounding results.”

There’s no denying that this trip to the cave brought rewards far beyond his initial expectations.

Luokuke could no longer hold out either. Seeing Cheng Ye look over, he whispered, “Inspector Cheng, I’m in your hands.”

“Sleep, as long as you want.” Cheng Ye nodded slightly.

Once the two were sound asleep, he rose and left the carriage, gently closing the door behind him.

In Dapo Town, while he slept for a day, everything relied on Luokuke, Wang Kang, and Garcia to maintain order.

Now that he was awake, the three were all down, leaving only him to hold the line.

Fortunately, all threats were now under control, and he only needed to wait it out until Tan Ming and the Ten Thousand Orders Land Conch settled their scores.

Cheng Ye walked to the first truck, opened the door, and began taking inventory of supplies.

Bai Wei was clearly prepared, anticipating a prolonged confrontation, with no shortage of food and drink.

After inventory, Cheng Ye paused briefly before heading toward the town center.

Residents by the bonfire were still caught up in conversation. He stepped forward, sternly reminding them that the sounds of the night might attract Infected Bodies and Infected Sources.

Everyone immediately calmed down at the mention, obediently returning to their living quarters, and soon, the noisy open space quieted down.

“Chang Kai, you’re responsible for patrolling the Red Zone; make a round every three hours, and I’ll join you.” Cheng Ye called out to Chang Kai, who was somewhat familiar to him.

“Yes!” Chang Kai’s eyes lit up at the prospect of Cheng Ye leading the team in person, but after agreeing, he couldn’t help but ask in a low voice, “Inspector Cheng, Inspector Garcia, and Inspector Luokuke have been gone for an entire day. Are they… alright?”
